Avalabetta is located in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka. Avalabetta has a mythological story of Mahabharatha. During Samudra Mathana, there were many things getting produced, one of them was cows, which eventually reached this place. With time there were many cows visiting this place. Hence it is also called Cow Hill(Dhenugiri). There is a pond at the hilltop and a temple in the surroundings! Don’t forget to visit them too!

This is an ideal getaway in the rainy season but be careful because rocks would be slippery.  This place is also a confluence of river Kaveri and Arkavathi.

There is a coracle ride (please ask the locals about teppa – coracle in Kannada), a temple and the famous Goan-kind coconut tree line near the coracle ride place!

Blackbuck are found only in two places in Karnataka, vizRanebennur Blackbuck Sanctuary, 302km from Bangalore, in Haveri district and Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve 110 km from Bangalore in Tumkur district. These are rare species of antelopes. It is found mainly in India but it is extinct in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Kotilingeshwara temple – for religious pilgrimage

This place has an interesting story. There was a person called Manjunatha, he was an atheist. He had a wrestling school for living. When he happened to visit the temple, the deepas blew off and everyone in the temple accused him for that. But the then Maharaja told him to prove his innocence. So Manjunatha sang “Mahaprana deepam” by Vyasa Maharshi and the deepa glowed brighter. 

He realised that he had insulted one crore times and he regretted; he with the help of the king installed one crore (koti in Kannada) shiva lingas in the temple. Hence the name kotilingeshwara!

The story is beautifully shown in the movie “Manjunatha”. One of the famous songs “Mahaprana Deepam”
