best treks in India _

Why should you read this blog?

I have completed a few treks – Buran Ghati and Sandakphu in the Himalayas, Kumara Parvatha, Sathodi, Narasimha Parvata, Doodhsagar, Bheemeshwari, Makalidurga in Karnataka. I have trekked with my old friends, acquaintances, and strangers. I am a very talkative person but sometimes an introvert. Also, I feel I can read the situation pretty well.

The passion for traveling has allowed me to make many friends across the world across different streams.

The place matters a lot compared to who we are traveling with. But sometimes if the fellow travelers are not friendly, we become irritable even on the best treks in India.

I have committed few mistakes and my fellow trek mates have also done a few of them!

The 9 Mistakes You Must Avoid on the Best Treks in India

Doubting yourself if you are Fit enough to Trek

This is a common mistake committed by people who travel less or do not exercise. Mother nature has a place for every kind of trekker. There are most difficult treks like Mount Everest/ K2 to most easy treks like Skandagiri. Very few people in the world can complete the most difficult top ten treks of India, but that does not mean trekking is meant only for fit guys. The best treks in India is subjective to every individual.

Every trekking website has categories like easy, moderate, difficult, extremely difficult. In the worst case, you can call up the company to know the difficulty of the treks.

Never doubt yourself if you can trek!

Getting Lost in Ton of Options to Choose from the Best Treks in India

There are tons of options like summer treks, winter treks, difficult treks, easy treks in India. It is very easy to lose focus to find the aptest trek for you.

The number of options actually confuses the audience.

Steps to choose a trek

  • Know when you will be able to take leaves, season.
  • Know your current fitness level.
  • Know how much time you can dedicate to improving fitness.
  • Check the instructions on the trekking website and choose just a little tougher trek compared to the current fitness level.

Taking Trekking Lightly, Struggling on the Trail !

Even after following the above steps in point 2, there are chances that you might not work on fitness. Fitness is of utmost importance to experience the best treks in India thoroughly!

The worst part of not being fit during the treks is you will not be able to enjoy the trek. Instead you will be the last one to reach and within no time, the trek leader would ask you to start walking.

Need not take trekking seriously, but to make the experience a memorable one, be fit!

Being Overconfident about Your Fitness, My Story!

I had completed the Buran Ghati trek(15000 ft) in May 2019. I had booked for Sandakphu trek(12000 ft) in December 2019. I was over-confident.

I completed the Buran Ghati trek more easily than I expected. It was my first Himalayan trek. I had put -in a lot of effort to ease the trek. But before the Sandakput trek, I forgot the amount of effort I had put in. I trained the least and I could feel the difference in my speed during one of the top ten treks in India – Sandakphu. One fine day, I hurt my knee while descending a small hill. That was still the 4th day of 6-day treks, and then on I knocked on the door of hell while descending.

Never be overconfident, especially about fitness. The best treks in India can become your worst nightmares.

Now I try to run 5 km once or twice a week.

Not picking up Plastic found on Trails of the Best Treks in India!

The himalayas, western ghats, eastern ghats are all home for innumerable species of birds and animals. It is our duty to preserve the environment.

We humans have already encroached many forests, trying to take away homes of wildlife. Additionally, while we trek or visit a natural place, we leave carbon footprints – plastic covers, wrappers, maggi covers, tins, etc.

Please clean the mountains when you visit them! Indiahikes is the best organization when it comes to cleaning the trails. Indiahikes has a program called “Green Trails” to leave the mountains in a better shape than there were! I am proud to be a part of the program.

Forgetting to pack pair of socks, rain coat, first-aid kit!

It is impossible to share things while trekking. If it is a small piece of chocolate or dry fruits, then it is possible. But if it comes to jackets, socks, poncho, caps, etc. please don’t expect others to help you. They are humans too, if you feel cold even they’ll feel cold. If you feel the socks stink, even they feel the same. To enjoy every ounce of the best treks in India, it is mandatory to be a little more organized.

Always make a list of things to carry for a trek and pack them well in advance.

Fear of looking little infront of others!

Remember trekking is for you! It is to make yourself happy and content. It is for you to feel the satisfaction of achievement.

There are few instances when trekkers try to hide their physical pain and continue trekking. It is always good to inform trek leaders if you get injured. It will be easier for the leader to take the call and evacuate if needed.

Never shy away from asking for help when it is needed the most!

Not making friends on treks!

There are many introverts who cannot start conversations with strangers. But it is a sin not to talk to your fellow trek mates/ strangers.  The best bonds are built during the treks because you are you during the treks. The best thing about being on the best treks in India is strangers becoming lifetime friends.

Each one will surely have a story to tell. Just start saying “hello” to every trek mate and start the conversation with a common topic of interest.

Otherwise, if you want to travel alone, go on solo trips.

Not putting the trekking accessories in place after trekking!

It is good to put back all the trekking accessories in place after thoroughly cleaning them. You never know what would be the condition before the next trek. What if you forget to add a trek jacket to the bag and realise after reaching the base camp(of the next trek)?

Never miss an opportunity to make best out of best treks in India.

How to ease the process of booking the best treks in India?

Different trekking companies serve in different parts of the country. Each trekking region would need its own kind of expertise, when it comes to the Himalayas, the challenge would be with high altitude and managing people at greater heights where oxygen is less.

When it comes to low altitude treks, the challenging part would be to remember the exact routes and bring back the team safely to the base camp.

Along with this the technical knowledge about how to take care of injuries, how to evacuate the injured trekkers in lesser time, how to create the bond among fellow trekkers, etc are other challenges faced by trek leaders.

The best treks in India must be lead by the best organizations, trek leaders and the ground staff.

The leading Himalayan trekking organisations are Indiahikes, Trek the Himalayas, Bikat Adventures, Trek and Tales, etc.

The well-known organizations in Karnataka are Plan the Unplanned, Bangalore Mountaineering Club, Wanderophile, Thrillophilia, Bangalore Hikers, etc.

The renowned trekking organisations in Maharashtra are  The Great Next – Adventure Tours,
